My Trip to the Mall
No doubt if many of you where to guess where the first place I visited would be you would never of guessed the 4th largest Mall in the world. Due to the fact that I generally hate malls and lose all energy and reasoning capability when I go there. But apparently being on the other side of the globe has turned my brain upside down or maybe I'm using the "Mall" half now I don't know. But to my surprise and I'm sure Deidi's as well, my first stop on my Philippine trip was to the SM Mall of Asia. To be honest it wasn't my first choice but it was recommended to us by our escort here in Manila. As for the mall it was really "big" with allot of stores I've never seen before, and like a million people walking through the hall ways. The interesting part was the getting there and leaving. On my way there, and really any time you drive on the street, you see these little, what looks like aluminum foil, buses called "Jeepneys". These little tin cans are a cross between Jeeps and Buses and look like a real adventure in the making. They all seem to be personalized with different things or pictures painted on the side and tons of people cramped inside. The other thing of note on the trip was that we went out to eat at a steak house where all the waiters were dressed up like American cowboys. There's some degree of irony in the fact that I travel half-way around the world to be served by Filipino cowboys. Whatever. When in Manila...... And finally, leaving the mall there was a line about 40 feet long of people waiting to take a taxi. But everything ran smoothly thanks to a couple of mall attendance dressed like bell boys escorting people to their cab. It's weird, some things seem upside down over here but at the same time strangely organized. That's it for now, I'm ready to settle into my first night's sleep while you all go to the meeting. Enjoy.

Hi just trying this one more time...to see if it works.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a huge fan of malls either, but how could you miss out on the 4th largest mall in the world? ;) By the way, I have TWO blogs, so what does that say about me?!?!
ReplyDeleteYeeeiiii! It worked! Hey Hon, how are you? I love your blog. It is so funny! It keeps me posted as to what you are upto over there so I don't worry too much. I can't believe your first stop was to the mall, that's what happens when you refuse it back home. Reading about the philippino cowboy was one thing but actually seeing a picture of him was fantastic!! oh and I told you I didn't care for that book "lonely planet", see what I mean now? Maybe the name of the book is symbolic of something else, don't you think? Thank you for the quotes! Ok, I'll actually write an email. But I miss you!!
ReplyDeleteLonely people who suck and write about countries they wished they had fun at but are too boring to make an effort.
